Son Sen was a high-ranked member of the Khmer Rouge, he studied in Paris in the 1950s and was Communist influence while he was there. He became assosciated Ieng Sary and Pol Pot. When they returned to Cambodia, Son Sen became involved in the CPK. When the Khmer Rouge gained control over Phnom Penh, Son Sen served as the minister of defense, and deputy prime minister, or chief of execution. He was also known as Khieu, Brother 89. Son Sen also worked at the S21 prison.
When Son Sen decided to advocate peace, Pol Pot murdered Son Sen and his family. Pol Pot saw Son Sen as a traitor, and murdered him brutally, his grandchildren’s skulls were ran over by a truck. Ta Mok, who had dared to advocate peace like Son Sen, was also brutally murdered. |
